The Galería Elba Benítez is pleased to announce the coming exhibition of new work by Cabello/Carceller, titled UNA PELÍCULA SIN NINGUNA INTENCIÓN. Después de Chantal Akerman (A Film Without Intention. After Chantal Akerman) and opening on February 19th, 2022.
Throughout their career, Cabello/Carceller have frequently drawn on the iconography of cinema as a means toward formulating a critical examination of the socially imposed mechanisms of representation that permeate our cultural and political realms. In UNA PELÍCULA SIN NINGUNA INTENCIÓN. Después de Chantal Akerman, Cabello/Carceller will continue with their well-established practice, in this case establishing a dialogue with the film Les Rendez-vous d’Anna by the artist and filmmaker Chantal Akerman.
The artist team Cabello/Carceller employ a variety of media in their work, often creating events in front of the camera, orchestrated narratives based on texts, ideas or (as in this case) films, elements that are re-thought and re-situated from different viewpoints. Their references to historical and cultural figures explore the less visible areas of their lives and experiences. Drawing on a queer perspective, their work opens ways of comprehension and analysis that allow for an imagining of subjectivities and ways of thinking that transcend identity borders.
