The Galería Elba Benítez is proud to announce the exhibition The Citrus Project, a portfolio of works by 14 internationally acclaimed artists — Mirosław Bałka, Tacita Dean, Nan Goldin, Paul Graham, Carsten Höller, Roni Horn, Cristina Iglesias, Ragnar Kjartansson, Julie Mehretu, Cildo Meireles, Matt Mullican, Antoni Muntadas, Philippe Parreno and Julião Sarmento — who have worked closely with curator Vicente Todolí over the past 40 years. Coordinated by Lucía Muñoz Iglesias, the exhibition will be on view April 15 – 29.
Titled The Todolí Citrus Foundation Collection Box, the portfolio is a collective project initiated by the participating artists in order to support Todolí’s citrus farm and research center in Palmera, Valencia. The portfolio itself is issued in an edition of 17 boxed sets containing a variety of formats, including photography, prints and monotypes, created by a select group of some of the international art world’s most renowned artists. While these artists employ a broad spectrum of artistic and conceptual strategies in their work, all have collaborated extensively with Todolí in his career as curator, museum director and art advisor, during which he has developed exhibitions and projects that have been instrumental in defining the course of contemporary art over the past four decades.
All proceeds from The Citrus Project portfolio will benefit the Todolí Citrus Fundació, a 50,000 square meter orchard founded by Todolí in 2013 that today holds 480 varieties of citrus and is the site of extensive research into agricultural, environmental, historical, culinary, and industrial issues related to the world of citrus.
Vicente Todolí (Palmera, 1958) has served as chief curator and artistic director of the IVAM – Institut Valencià d’Art Modern, founding director of Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, and director of Tate Modern. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan, the President of the Advisory Committee to the Fundación Botín and Centro Botín in Santander, and an adviser to COLECCIÓN INELCÓM Arte Contemporáneo and Bombas Gens Centre d’Art.
