Galería Elba Benítez is pleased to present a new season of /08/, an annual series of exhibitions organised by Alejandro Cesarco that take place while the gallery is closed for its summer break.
This August /08/ presents an intervention by Patricia Esquivias on the gallery’s answering machine. Esquivias uses this space to host a micro-exhibition of her usual methods: pointing towards something forgotten, weaving together personal memory with public or official history, and using her voice as the narrative thread.
Please call + 34 913 08 04 68 to listen to the message.
Patricia Esquivias’s work addresses overlooked aspects of our history and society in a deeply personal way. Her research process involves interviewing people from various fields, reviewing archives, and walking through spaces. The narratives she constructs from this process—infused with irony and without a claim to exactness—invite viewers to reread History.
Esquivias has exhibited her work in Spain (Museo Nacional Reina Sofía, CA2M, CentroCentro, La Casa Encendida, TEA Tenerife, Artium Vitoria, CGAC, CAC), Germany (Frankfurter Kunstverein, Langenhagen Kunstverein, Dresden Kunsthaus, 5th Berlin Biennale), the United States (White Columns, Murray Guy, Hammer Museum), Italy (Arcos Museum), and the United Kingdom (East International, Tate Modern).
